Making Astronauts: Bucks County to the Moon

Explore a fascinating page of local history that many have never even heard of.

The nearby Warminster Township’s Naval Air Development Center (NADC Johnsville) had a significant role in preparing America’s early Astronauts for the space program.

In Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, you will see how the road to the Moon led straight through Bucks County. Astronauts training nearby included Walter M. Schirra Jr., one of America’s original Mercury 7 astronauts.

The exhibit  showcases historic artifacts and images, many on view for the first time, a replica spacecraft, Navy flight clothing and other interactive opportunities.

Now through September 8 at the Mercer Museum, 84 S. Pine Street in Doylestown.
