HollyHedge has been working on greening the Estate for many years now. We are super excited to begin a new series of blog posts that captures one of the key components of our commitment to environmental sustainability – nurturing our beautiful and native biodiversity. For years we have been working with two really great organizations to help reintroduce native flora onto the Estate – Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve and Prairie Moon Nursery. For those who are interested, each organization is an incredible resource for helping you begin your own native, backyard garden.
The series of blog posts are meant as a brief introduction to some of the wonderful species of flowers and plants that can now be found on the Estate. It’s the perfect accompaniment for a self-guided, walking tour of the property and its gardens. These native species are inviting new beauty to the property, as well as, nurturing a habitat for butterflies, hummingbirds, songbirds, and beneficial insects. The native plants featured in the series include a variety of wildflowers and herbs that are native to the Bucks County area, as well as the Northeastern United States.
If you’re interested in staying with us, and leading your own self-guided tour of the gardens (in accessible areas), please contact our innkeeper to make a reservation.
